What is journey management?

Journey management is the process of planning, monitoring and supporting travel from start to finish, particularly in environments where there may be elevated operational or security risks.

It typically includes pre-travel risk assessment, route planning, real-time monitoring, and access to support in the event of an incident. The aim is to provide organisations with greater visibility and structured oversight of their people while they are travelling.

When should organisations use journey management?

Journey management is commonly used when employees are travelling in unfamiliar, remote or higher-risk environments, or where there is limited local infrastructure.

It is also relevant for organisations or family offices that require consistent oversight of travel, including projects involving multiple locations, time-sensitive movements, or critical personnel.

How does journey management support duty of care?

Journey management helps organisations meet their duty of care responsibilities by introducing structured processes around planning, communication and response.

This includes understanding the risks associated with a journey, ensuring travellers are informed and prepared, and maintaining the ability to respond if conditions change or an incident occurs.

How is journey management different from travel risk management?

Travel risk management provides the overall framework for managing risks associated with business travel, including policy, systems and governance.

Journey management sits within that framework and focuses on the operational delivery of specific trips, ensuring that individual journeys are planned, monitored and supported in line with organisational standards.

What happens if an incident occurs during a journey?

If an incident occurs, it is escalated through our operations centre, where teams assess the situation and coordinate an appropriate response.

This may include communication with the traveller, coordination with local providers, or activation of additional support such as medical assistance or evacuation, depending on the circumstances.

What are your due diligence and vetting procedures?

We select journey management providers with a rigorous due diligence process and continual improvement procedures.

Are long-term risk management projects possible?
