Mutinous soldiers have taken to the streets of major Ivorian cities after further disagreements over the payment bonuses. Unrest seen in early of 2017 re-erupted on 12 May 2017. On 15 May, shots were heard in Abidjan, Bouaké, and areas involved in cocoa cultivation. On 15 May 2017, the Ivorian government’s Defence Minister appeared on television to announce that a settlement had been reached, only for two spokesmen for the rebels to disagree. On 16 May 2017, it was confirmed by the mutinous soldiers that they would return to their barracks after a new deal was reached.
